During the early-90's there was a reemerging innovation of the DJ particularly on the West Coast. The term turntablist wouldn't catch on internationally until the end of the 90's. Pioneer's like D-styles, Disk, Flare and Qbert would bring scratch music to another level under the moniker Invisibl Skratch Piklz. Canada/USA crews such as The Allies with Craze, Infamous and A-Trak would reinvent battle mixing and raise the bar of turntablism even further in the late 90's into the early 2000's, winning numerous world championships titles in the World Technics DMC.
Hailing from Bremerton Washington, Shmix started cutting it up in the mid-90's. Places like the Filipino Community Center in Seattle is where he would get his start alongside his friend Charles and the duo would go by the name Battlezone DJ's. Together, their sound was unique but Shmix had another elevated sound beyond his colleague in DJing - the art of scratching.
Throughout the years Shmix entered numerous DJ competitions in the Pacific Northwest and on a national presence as well. Some titles include advancing from the DMC Seattle heat and placing as a 2015 Los Angeles DMC Finalist, 2016 Skratch Lounge DJ Battle Champ and Guitar Center DJ Spinoff Northwest Champ. Shmix has worked with several artists songs by providing scratch compositions.
Shmix has been working on a boom bap scratch composition which consists of MPC production and complex scratch regimens. You can search the web on several music media outlets, past podcasts and internet radio mixshows.
